Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
Nearlie is a private space for two people. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Nearlie mobile app (the “Services”), why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is written to be read — if anything is unclear, write to us at support@nearlieapp.com.
The short version. Your Nearlie space is visible only to you and your partner — nothing you share in the app is ever public. Text you type in certain games is end‑to‑end encrypted so that we cannot read it. We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. Deleting your couple deletes both accounts and the data that belongs to them.

1. Who we are
The data controller responsible for your personal information is:
Dmitrii Campestrini (doing business as “Nearlie”)
Nordbahnstraße 47, 1020 Vienna, Austria
support@nearlieapp.com
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the email address and account identifier those providers share with us.
- Profile details — a display name, an optional avatar photo, an optional birthday, your language, and your time zone.
- Relationship details — information you choose to share about your relationship, such as when it started, your relationship stage (for example dating, engaged, or married), living situation, and family status.
- Content you create — answers and choices in games and daily questions, wishes and wishlist items, moods, notes, shared lists, and photos and drawings you share with your partner.
- Location — if you turn on location sharing, your device’s coordinates, used only to show you and your partner the distance between you (see Sensitive information).
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — which features you use and when (for example that a game was started or a mood was set), collected through our analytics provider PostHog under pseudonymous account identifiers.
- Device data — device platform, app version, language, and the push‑notification token that lets us deliver notifications to your device.
- Log data — technical logs such as IP address, timestamps, and error reports, used to keep the Services secure and working.
Information from third parties
- Sign‑in providers — when you use Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and an account identifier from them.
- Purchases — Apple and our subscription provider RevenueCat send us your subscription status, product, expiry date, and a transaction identifier. We never receive or store your card number, bank details, or any other payment instrument data — payment is handled entirely by Apple. See Apple’s privacy policy and RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
We do not buy data about you from data brokers, advertisers, or any other outside source.
3. End‑to‑end encrypted content
Free‑form text that you type in certain games — for example your statements in Two Truths and a Lie, your written answers to daily questions, and your Secret Wishes — is encrypted on your device before it is sent to us, using a key that only you and your partner hold. We store and transmit only the encrypted form and cannot read this content.
The encryption keys for your couple are stored in your device’s Keychain and are synced through Apple’s iCloud Keychain so that you keep access when you change devices. Apple’s iCloud terms apply to that sync.
Other content — such as your choices in curated games, moods, wishlist items, shared lists, photos, and drawings — is protected in transit and at rest, but is not end‑to‑end encrypted, because our servers need to process it to provide the Services (for example, to compute a game result or deliver a photo to your partner’s widget). This content is only ever visible to you and your partner — never to other users, and never publicly.
4. Sensitive information
Some features of Nearlie involve information that data‑protection laws treat as sensitive. We process it only with your explicit consent, expressed through clear opt‑ins inside the app:
- Information about your sex life. Nearlie offers optional adult (18+) content packs. If you and your partner both opt in, your answers and choices in those packs may reveal information about your sex life or sexual preferences. These packs are off by default; both partners must confirm they are 18 or older and separately choose to enable them, and either of you can turn them off at any time in Settings.
- Health‑related information. Relationship details you choose to provide (such as family status, including expecting a child) may indirectly relate to health. Providing these details is optional.
- Precise location. If you enable location sharing, we store your device’s coordinates to compute the distance between you and your partner. Your coordinates are never shown to anyone — including your partner. Only the resulting distance is shared, and only while both of you have sharing turned on and your locations are less than 24 hours old. You can turn this off at any time in Settings or by withdrawing the location permission on your device.
We never use sensitive information for advertising, we do not disclose it to third parties for their own purposes, and we do not use it to infer characteristics about you.
5. How we use your information
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Creating your account, pairing you with your partner, running the games and features, delivering content between you and your partner, and sending push notifications you have enabled | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Managing your subscription and verifying purchases | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Adult content packs, and location‑based distance sharing | Explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a), Art. 9(2)(a)) — withdrawable at any time in Settings |
| Understanding how features are used so we can improve the app, and keeping the Services secure and preventing fraud and abuse | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Responding to support requests and sending administrative messages (for example sign‑in codes or notices about changes to our terms) | Performance of a contract; legitimate interests |
| Complying with legal obligations | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf under data‑processing agreements, and only to the extent needed for them to do their job:
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign‑in, payments, push notifications | Push tokens; payment handled by Apple directly |
| Sign‑in (optional) | Authentication only | |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Pseudonymous account ID, subscription status |
| PostHog (EU) | Product analytics | Pseudonymous account ID, feature‑usage events |
| Cloudflare | Storage of photos, drawings, and avatars | Uploaded media, stored privately |
| Resend | Sending sign‑in code emails | Your email address |
| Hetzner (EU) | Server and database hosting | Hosts our backend infrastructure in the European Union |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or as part of a business transfer (in which case this policy continues to apply to your data).
Your partner. Nearlie is built around sharing with one person. Content you create in the app — game answers after a reveal, wishes, moods, photos, your display name and avatar — is visible to your partner as part of how the Services work. Nothing is ever visible to other users or the public.
7. International transfers
We are based in Austria, and our servers and database are hosted in the European Union (Hetzner). Some of the service providers listed above are located in the United States, so limited personal information may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and, where the provider is certified, the EU‑U.S. Data Privacy Framework, to protect your information to European standards. You can request details of these safeguards by contacting us.
8. Retention and deletion
- We keep your personal information for as long as you have an account, and no longer than needed for the purposes described in this policy.
- Deleting your couple deletes everything. When a couple is deleted in the app, both partners’ accounts and all associated content — games, answers, wishes, moods, wishlists, photos, drawings, keys, and location data — are permanently deleted from our systems, including stored media.
- Analytics events held by PostHog are deleted or expire in accordance with our retention settings there; residual copies in backups are purged on a short cycle.
- We may retain minimal records where the law requires it (for example, records related to purchases for tax purposes).
9. Security
We protect your information with technical and organisational measures appropriate to its sensitivity: end‑to‑end encryption for typed game content, encryption in transit (TLS) for all traffic, encrypted credential storage, private media storage accessible only through short‑lived signed links, and access controls that strictly scope every piece of content to its couple. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — but we design for the assumption that your relationship data deserves the highest care.
10. Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy. You can download a machine‑readable copy yourself at any time in the app under Settings → Your data → Export my data;
- Correct inaccurate information (your profile is editable in Settings);
- Delete your information (most easily by deleting your account or your couple in Settings, which removes the account and its content);
- Restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests;
- Port your data to another service in a machine‑readable format — this is the same JSON export available in Settings;
- Withdraw consent at any time — for adult content and location sharing, and for usage analytics, directly in Settings; withdrawal does not affect processing that happened before.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@nearlieapp.com. We will respond in accordance with applicable law, and we may need to verify your identity first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority — in Austria, the Datenschutzbehörde (DSB).
11. US state privacy rights
If you live in California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. In the last twelve months we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers; personal records (such as name); protected classifications (such as age and relationship status you provide); commercial information (subscription history); internet or app activity (feature usage); geolocation data (opt‑in); visual information (photos and drawings you share); and sensitive personal information as described in Section 4. We retain all categories for as long as you have an account.
We do not sell or share personal information (as “sell” and “share” are defined in California law), we have not done so in the preceding twelve months, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics. To exercise your rights — or to appeal a decision we make about a request — email support@nearlieapp.com. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
12. Age requirement
Nearlie is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use the Services, and adult content packs additionally require both partners to confirm they are 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information, contact us at support@nearlieapp.com and we will delete it.
13. Tracking, ads, and cookies
Nearlie contains no advertising and no third‑party tracking. We do not use cookies or similar technologies in the app, we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). Because there is no tracking, browser “Do Not Track” signals are not applicable to the app.
We do keep first‑party, product‑analytics — content‑free events such as which onboarding screen you reached — under a pseudonymous account identifier, to understand and improve the app. You can turn this off any time in Settings → Your data → Share usage analytics.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version. If we make material changes — especially any that affect sensitive information — we will notify you in the app before they take effect.
